Have you always wanted to become an editor or content creator? Who are your inspirations?
I have always wanted to be one! To me, storytelling is at the heart of my content and I had always loved reading Joan Didion. I’m in my illiterate era, unfortunately, but I love getting inspiration from non-beauty and non-fashion cinema and TV—I love campy shows, thrillers, and fantasy worlds.
How do you keep yourself relevant with the changing times and trends?
I think it’s openness to try new things even if it feels odd or cringe. To be cringe is to be free!
We love how Belle styles the Medea wrap dress with vibrant red mules.
We can't help but adore your beauty content! Care to share tips for aspiring content creators or those who just want to ramp up their online presence?
My number one advice is to know yourself well and what you want to say out there. Have a purpose—corny, I know, but if your only goal is to go viral then your content and stories will have nothing at its heart and you’ll easily run out of ideas. If you know what you’re there for and what you wanna put out in the world, it’ll be exciting to make content for that.
Share with us three valuable lessons you’ve learned that help you in navigating your career.
The idea that “nobody cares” is actually freeing. When you know your core values and identity, it’s easier to stick to your guns and to a path you want to follow (or pave yourself!). On the other hand, you also have to know when to redirect or when to walk away from something.
Black and white, but make it NOT boring. This proud morena is wearing the Karatina wrap skirt.
Any dream projects for the New Year?
I hope another big beauty campaign like the L’Oreal one!
What empowers you as a woman? On the flip side, how do you think are you empowering other women?
Knowing I can do whatever I want. Haha! I feel I help empower others most when I share my series like “What I wish I knew at 22 instead of 32.” A lot of younger women out there still kind of have that timeline crisis we grew up with, but I get comments saying “I'm not afraid of turning 30 anymore.” It’s so sweet to hear—and as they should!
Can beauty girls be fashion girls, too? Yes, of course! Belle rocks the Pretoria skirt set with the Luna beaded bag.
Aside from being a beauty inspiration, you are a style inspiration too! Describe your personal style. What makes it “Uniq”?
This really flatters me because I always felt like I was never categorized as a fashion plate myself. I think what makes my style "Uniq" is I have a particular vibe I know by heart already, even if it evolves as I do too. I am inspired by films that I watch, and drag queens too! So I feel like my style is very much the fantasy of “What character do I want to portray today?” Even then, I know my palette, silhouettes that work for me, and I love exploring a trend when I know it fits my taste.
What style lessons can you impart to others, especially those who haven’t found their personal style yet?
Watch and take notes from people whose style is the opposite of yours! It helps you explore and have fun with it.
Another Medea dress moment. Like Belle, show off your décolletage in this number.
You are someone who champions wellness. Do you think this impacts your style choices?
I feel like not really, but because I’ve been into fitness recently it also means I take more time to get ready and switch up between workout mode and work mode. Which are two completely different things for me. Haha!
You have five minutes to get ready. What’s your final beauty look and outfit?
How funny for this to come after the previous question! I would probably go with structured jeans, a white cutout top, and just my white cork Birks for footwear. I'd also put on some gold jewelry and grab a cute bag. Beauty-wise, it'll be brows, sunglasses—then on the go I’d apply SPF and a lip and cheek tint. Done!
Belle turned a printed scarf into a halter top for this look. Perfect with the Kuruman pleated, wide-leg pants, right?
Pretty in pink! Belle is wearing the Seeker fave Paloha.
The Paloha dress is a closet must-have! It works well with both casual and dressy 'fits.
Share a fashion memory you’d never forget.
When I was 25, I was sent to Paris Fashion Week and I got to see Carven, Kenzo, Vetements, and Iris Van Herpen. The Van Herpen show was incredible, it was art. I’ll never forget that trip, it’s a personal canon event.
