  • WHAT IS GUA SHA? - Gua Sha, pronounced "gwa shaw," is an ancient Chinese healing technique. Comprised of two Chinese characters, Gua means to scrape and Sha means sand. Used by Chinese health practitioners, Gua Sha also is practiced as a home remedy. Not often used in the West because the indication of healing using this method is a rash, Gua Sha is performed to treat systemic toxicity, poor circulation, physical and emotional stress, and migraines. Gua Sha healing promotes the flow of Qi (energy) and blood throughout the body for overall health.

  •  USAGE & BENEFITS:
  • FACE -Make gentle gliding movements from the center of your face outwards. See photo diagrams. This promotes radiance, activation of cells to regain elasticity, reduces wrinkles and pores, removes dark circles and eye bags, allows better absorption of skincare products, lightens pigmentation, and detoxifies the skin controlling acne breakouts.
  • BODY - 1) Determine the areas that have poor blood and Qi circulation. Press the muscles to feel for tension, ropiness, or knots. When you release pressure from a stagnant area, there will be blanched areas that are slow to return to correct color. This is a sign of poor circulation.
 2) Apply Gua Sha to the affected area with a massage oil. Press down firmly, scraping the tool along the length of the affected muscle. Apply rapid 5-inch strokes. Create sufficient friction to raise the Sha, the toxins that flood to the skin's surface and the actual removal of disease in the body.
This directly stimulates subcutaneous peripheral nerves, improve local circulation of blood and lymph fluid, speed up the metabolism, promote nutritional function.
  • A balance of Western medicines and Eastern healing is a good health formula. Gua Sha increases micro-circulation (for a specific area) and helps heal and relieve pain. Don't be afraid of the slight red dots or rashes that appear.  These are your body's toxins being flushed out through the surface. It is a similar concept to spooning or cupping.
