Greek Chic

by Chia Yulo April 26, 2014

The simplicity and freshness of Greek design has always been one of great appeal. As a culture that flourished along the Aegean, their aesthetic has very much been rooted in nature. The colors they use are from the sea, sky and earth. The warm, balmy weather also lends a very relaxed vibe to their choice of interiors. It may seem spare, but there is also a certain luxury to living with only the most comfortable of essentials.

Here are a few tips on how to get the look in your home:

1. Whitewash your walls. It makes your space brighter and allows each room to flow to one another. There are no hard edges or sharp lines here.

2. Paint a wooden door or window your favorite shade of the ocean-- cobalt, cerulean, turquoise, aqua or the lightest shade of blue - it's really up to you!

3. Keep it simple, but comfortable. Not much room for clutter here.

4. When using wood, think light and natural driftwood-looking. Keep its natural form and color with a bit of a stain, unless of course you're painting it your favorite color from nature.

5. Make it your own. Add a few accents to highlight your personality whether its a door hanger, a mobile, or your collection of pillows, books, or ceramics.

At the end of the day, it really is what you make it. If you have too much stuff lying around for the complete Greek makeover, start with little things like a throw pillow or candlesticks the color of the sea. Also, keep yourself inspired with accessories and and beauty products that remind you of the Aegean. Just have fun with it!
